“You have won” — the message that wants a fee

You have sat through passwords, links, OTPs, fake virus banners, QR codes on poles. This is the same play in party clothes. A text, a WhatsApp, an email: you have won a car, a grant, a UN fund, a lottery you did not enter, a parcel worth millions. To release it, pay a small fee, send airtime, share a BVN, click a link. The small fee is the whole harvest. There is no car. This lesson is the shape, so you can delete it in one breath and teach the next person the same breath.

You did not enter. That is enough. Real lotteries in Nigeria are not in the habit of hunting you on WhatsApp. Banks do not release “USD grants” after a processing fee. A church does not need you to pay Customs for a blessing that arrived as a container. A job that wants a processing fee before you start is not a job — you met that in the form lesson. Hurry, secrecy, a prize, a fee: four tells. You only need one.

Airtime, gift cards, and the kind relative

Send ₦5,000 airtime to this number to confirm. Buy a Google card and read the code. Pay Customs to this personal account. All of those are one-way taps. Reversals do not come. A relative's voice on the phone, crying, send money, is a different costume — confirm with another number you already have for that relative. Do not use the number that called. The prize message is the simpler cousin. Delete. Block. Do not argue with it. Arguing is how they keep you on the line until a fee feels like your idea.

A website with balloons and a form is still a form. You do not put a card into it. You do not download a “claim kit.” You do not call the international number; the call is the bill. If you already sent a little, stop. Do not send a second time to “unlock the first.” Tell the bank if an account you paid is still reachable. Shame is the second harvest. You are not the first. You will not be the last. You can still close the tap.

• If a family member forwards one, tell them the four tells. Do not click theirs to “see.”
• Nobody at the academy, a bank, or a church needs a fee to release a prize you did not enter.
• If you already paid, stop paying. Bank, then a person you can see. Not a helper in the comments.

Walk there yourself. Do not pay to be paid. Do not read an OTP aloud. Do not trust hurry. You already know how to sit down when a message shouts. Sit down. Then delete. Then go back to the letter that is actually yours.
